Are the tools hard to find and/or expensive?
If you're in the U.S., we recommend a simple toolkit from a trusted calligraphy shop that contains everything you need and costs less than $20, plus shipping.
If you're outside the U.S., the specific tools can be a little harder to find.
You only need FOUR THINGS (nib holder, nib, ink and paper) and we provide a list of international suppliers and tool alternatives to make it as easy as possible.
What if I have AWFUL handwriting?
You can still totally do calligraphy!
Calligraphy looks like handwriting, but the key difference is that it's built from a few easy foundational shapes.
That means, if you can learn to draw 6 simple shapes, you can do calligraphy.
(trust me - this is the most common worry that we hear from new students, and they all end up getting over it!)
Can I do this if I'm left-handed?
Absolutely! It really pisses me off when left-handed people get told they can't do calligraphy.
Not gonna lie, it does take a little extra time to figure out your ideal grip and paper position, but we include tool recommendations and tips specifically for left-handed folks inside of The Daily Calligraphy Quickie.
